College professor Elizabeth Fronde Kennedy was a native of Fairview (Greenville County, S.C.) and a daughter of J. Whit Kennedy and Penelope Kennedy; she attended Presbyterian College (Clinton, S.C.), the College for Women (Columbia, S.C.) and graduated, 1914, with an M.A. from Columbia University; during 1920s, Kennedy served as Dean of Women at Trinity College [now Duke University], and later served in same capacity at Stonewall Jackson College (Abington, Va.); she completed a history of Spartanburg County, S.C., while employed by the W.P.A. Federal Writers' Project; during the 1940s, she taught at Spartanburg High School (S.C.); also taught at Longwood College (Farmville, Va.), during 1914-1919, and later several colleges in North Carolina, including Montreat College (N.C.) from which she retired in 1953.
