South Carolina statesman.
Aedanus Burke (1743-1802) was a South Carolina congressman and jurist who lived in Charleston. After the Revolutionary War, Burke spoke out against the persecution of British loyalists and, as an anti-Federalist, opposed the ratification of the Constitution (for further information, see Meleny, Public Life of Aedanus Burke, Columbia: University of South Carolina Press, 1989; Edgar, South Carolina: A History, Columbia: University of South Carolina Press, 1998).
