Hewitt Leonidas Bouanchaud was Louisiana state representative for Pointe Coupee Parish in 1904-1908 and 1912-1920, serving as Speaker of the House in his last 4-year term. He was lieutenant governor of Louisiana between 1920 and 1924. Bouanchaud unsuccessfully ran for governor in 1924, despite being the handpicked candidate of outgoing governor, John M. Parker.
