Newell James Crookston (1890-1976) grew up in North Logan, Utah. He attended Utah State University and was a farmer, teacher, and principal of the North Logan School. Later he became the Cache County Clerk and was employed by Utah State University in a variety of capacities. He is perhaps best known for writing the short book, "The Story of Old Ephraim," and he was the author of several other pieces on Cache Valley history as well. He married Ethel Smith in 1916 and the couple had six children. In 1965 Ethel passed away and in 1967 he was remarried to Glenna Marie Ballantyne. Newell James Crookston died on October 21, 1976.
