Biographical History
Dominick Miele was born in New York City on August 15, 1909. At the age of fourteen, Miele moved to Europe with his parents, where he unsuccessfully attempted to join a music conservatory. He returned to the United States in 1927 and lived in the Bronx, New York. On January 28, 1941, Miele was drafted into the United States Army; he joined Company M of the 47th Infantry Regiment at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, in early February, and trained at Fort Bragg until October 1942, when he was deployed to Morocco. Miele participated in active combat in North Africa, Sicily, and the Italian mainland; he was transferred to England in November 1943, where served with the 10th Replacement Depot in Litchfield from May-October 1944. He then served with the 383rd Military Police, Company A, in France and Belgium until July 1945, when he became a member of the 794th Military Police in Dijon, France. Miele remained in Dijon until the fall of 1945, when he sailed for the United States from Antwerp, Belgium. He was discharged on October 11, 1945, and worked in post office. Dominick Miele died in 1978.
