Biographical History

Robert Smith joined The Glenmede Trust Company in 1972 as Vice President after working at the Sun Oil Company for 15 years. He became the second president of GTC in 1977 when Allyn R. Bell, Jr. retired in 1977. Smith served in the position until his retirement in 1986.

Thomas W. Langfitt, M.D. began his tenure as President of Glenmede Trust and The Pew Charitable Trusts on April 1, 1987. Most of Langfitt's medical career was spent in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Pennsylvania. Langfitt served as the department's director and, in 1974, was named Vice President for Health Affairs responsible for the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine. He joined the board of the Glenmede Trust in 1980.
