Biographical History

Walter Yonge, diarist, born ca. 1581, was the second son and heir of John Yonge of Colyton, Devonshire, and his wife Alice Starre or Stere. He matriculated from Magdalen College, Oxford, on April 19, 1599, but left the university without a degree, and in 1600 was admitted to the Middle Temple. Yonge took an active part in local affairs and, in 1640, was elected a member of Parliament for Honiton. An inveterate diarist, he kept a journal from 1604-1645. His diary for 1604-1628 was published in 1848 by the Camden Society (volume 41). Yonge's most valuable diary is the one documenting the proceedings of the Long Parliament, which he began September 19, 1642 and continued until December 10, 1645. He died in December 1649.

From the description of Walter Yonge diary, 1642-1645 (inclusive), [microform]. (Unknown). WorldCat record id: 77899155
