Biographical History

Elmer Warner Learn was born in Sayre, Pennsylvania in 1929. He received his B.S. (1950), M.S. (1951), and Ph.D (1957) in Agricultural Economics from Pennsylvania State University. After completing his Ph.D, Learn accepted a position in the Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of Minnesota. From 1964-1969, Learn served as Assistant to the President and Coordinator of Planning and Director of Planning and Executive Assistant to the President at the University of Minnesota. Learn came to the University of California, Davis in 1969 to fill the newly created position of Executive Vice Chancellor, which focused on fiscal planning and the day to day operations of the campus. He served as Executive Vice Chancellor until 1984 when he stepped down and returned to teaching in the Agricultural Economics Department. He retired from teaching in 1992.
