Samuel Irving Rosenman (1896-1973), lawyer and presidential advisor, was a graduate of Columbia Law School, and joined the New York Bar in 1920. He served as a member of the New York State Legislature from 1922 to 1926 and then became the State's legislative bill drafting commissioner. In 1929, he was appointed Counsel to Governor Franklin D. Rosenman was also an advisor to the President Roosevelt on war manpower, housing, information services, and inflation. He resigned as a justice in 1943 to become Special Counsel to the President. He accompanied Roosevelt on his inspection trip to the Pacific Coast and Hawaii in the summer of 1944 and in February of the next year, went to Europe to survey the problems of providing supplies to the civilian populations of the liberated areas. After Roosevelt's death, Rosenman remained as Special Counsel to President Harry S. Truman until January 1946.
