A Trades Hall Committee was founded in 1856, which became known as a Trade and Labour Council in the 1870s. It was superseded by the Trades Hall Council in 1888.
A Trades Hall Committee was formed in 1856 to secure a central meeting place for trade unions. The powers and objectives of the Committee were reviewed in 1883 when a new Trades Hall was built. In 1884, the Committee was superseded by the Trades Hall Council.
