John Mills Sterling (b. 1904, Newark, N.J.-d. Nov. 30, 1976), U.S. Air Force officer, graduated from West Point in 1927 and completed flying school in 1930. In the late 1930s he served as assistant military attaché for Air in France and Belgium. In 1941 he commanded the 58th Pursuit Group, and in 1943 served as commanding officer of Air Defenses in the Southwest Pacific, and later chief of staff, 13th Air Force. After the War, General Sterling was assigned to the Central Intelligence Agency, then became chief of staff, 5th Air Force. From 1953 to 1956 he was air attaché at the American Embassy in London, England. He retired in 1957.
