Biographical History

Samuel H. Allen (1862-1926) was born in Mount Pleasant, Utah, on 15 July 1862. Subsequent to graduating from the University of Utah in 1881, he commenced his medical education at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1888 and received his degree in 1890. Returning to Utah in 1891, Dr. Allen established a reputation as one of the foremost surgeons in the state. In 1916, he and Dr. George W. Middleton formed a multi-specialty group practice which they named the Inter-Mountain Clinic. Samuel died on 30 August 1926. M. Lowry Allen (1893-1952), the son of Samuel H. Allen, was born in Mount Pleasant, Utah, on 2 August 1893. In 1924 he graduated with a medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Allen practiced medicine in Pennsylvania and in Utah from 1924-1952 while teaching on the medical faculties of the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Utah where he was appointed as the school's first professor of radiology. Lowry died on 2 August 1952. Joseph Severn Jones (1905-1988) was born in Montpelier, Idaho, on 23 March 1905. Graduating from the University of Utah in 1927, he entered law school and received his J.D. degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 1930. Jones married Marjorie Allen in 1931. A highly respected lawyer in Salt Lake City, he established a very successful law firm which became known as Jones, Waldo, Holbrook and McDonough. Joseph died on 3 January 1988. Marjorie Allen Jones (1905-2007), the daughter of Samuel H. Allen, was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on 26 August 1905. After receiving her B.S. degree from the University of Utah in 1928, she taught as an elementary teacher in the Salt Lake City School District. Marjorie served the Salt Lake City community on numerous occasions through her participation in charitable and church organizations. She died on 30 September 2007.

Joseph Severn Jones established a succesful law firm in Salt Lake City. His wife, Marjorie Allen Jones, was an elementary school teacher in the Salt Lake City School District and served the community through charitable and church organizations.
