Biographical History
American actress on stage, screen and television, Dolores Sutton was born in New York City in 1927 and was a philosophy major at New York University before co-authoring a script for NBC-TV and winning the lead. She had an active career as a performer, primarily on the stage and on television, and was also an occasional playwright.
Dolores Sutton and Bertha Case were friends and associates of Lotte Lenya during the years following the death of Lenya's first husband, Kurt Weill, in 1950.
Sutton, an actress who played alongside Lenya during part of the road tour of Brecht on Brecht, was also Lenya's neighbor in her apartment building on New York's East 55th Street and, perhaps most importantly, her partner in endless rounds of poker and canasta. Also in on the sessions was Bertha Case, who happened to act as agent for both Lenya (as actress and as executrix of the Weill estate), and the Bertolt Brecht estate.
