Biographical History
This religious institute, officially called the Congregation of the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ, was founded in Italy in 1720 by Paolo Francesco Danai (St. Paul of the Cross, 1694-1775). Their rule and constitutions were approved by Benedict XIV in 1741 and 1746. Clement XIV's bull Supremi Apostolatus (November 16, 1769) gave final approval to the institute and conferred the privileges of the old orders on the new congregation. The members take the traditional vows as well as a spiritual vow to promote the memory of the Passion in today's world. They are noted for their missions and retreats.
