English antiquary.
William Stukeley (1687-1765), antiquary and natural philosopher, born in Holbeach, Lincolnshire, friend of Sir Isaac Newton and a fellow of the Royal Society. In 1722 Stukeley was one of the founding members of a new antiquarian club, the Society of Roman Knights. He is credited with early discoveries about the Druid sites, Avebury and Stonehenge.
