American author and historian.
John Henry Barrows was born in Medina, Michigan in 1847. He studied at Olivet College, Yale Divinity School, Union Theological Seminary, and Andover Theological Seminary before being ordained to the Congregational ministry in 1875. In 1881, he became pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Chicago. In 1893, he organized the World's Parliament of Religions in connection with the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Elected President of Oberlin College in 1889, he served three years, dying suddenly of pneumonia in 1902.
