Biographical History
Monsignor Louis F. Pioletti (1887-1972) was born in Corio, Diocese of Turin, Italy. Drawn to the priesthood from earliest youth, he studied at the Theological Seminary of Turin, and received his Doctor of Divinity degree in 1910. He was ordained the same year. Concerned by the spiritual and cultural difficulties of Italian immigrants in foreign countries, he was sent to St. Paul, Minnesota to tend the spiritual needs of Italians there. In 1925, he was appointed pastor of Holy Redeemer and its mission parish of St. Ambrose in St. Paul. Under his care, the parishes were soon thriving. Fr. Pioletti was made a Monsignor in 1957. He was active in many Italian American organizations, especially the Columbus Memorial Association. In the 1960s Pioletti led his parish in an unsuccesful attempt to prevent destruction of Holy Redeemer Church and parish house for freeway construction.
