Biographical History

Russell Edward Brimhall was born June 2, 1923 in Randolph County, Pocahontas, Arkansas. He had two sisters, Ruth and Opal Brimhall. Throughout his childhood he traveled to many places across the country, including Texas, Colorado, and New Mexico. Mr. Brimhall joined the Navy and was selected for the US Naval Training School (Radio). The US Navy Radio School was located at the University of Colorado in Boulder from 1942 to 1944 and trained 29 companies. Brimhall entered the school and was assigned to Company 17, on July 22, 1943. During World War II, Brimhall sailed on the U. S. S. ALGOL (AKA 54), and traveled to such places as Pearl Harbor, Okinawa, Saipan, and New Guinea. He participated in the Philippine and the Okinawan campaigns, for which he received a total of three bronze stars. Brimhall married Kathryn Melrose Cornelius, who was born in October 1932.
