Biographical History

Established in 1977 as the successor body of the U.S.A. National Committee of the Lutheran World Federation (USANC), LWM was a joint agency of the Lutheran Church in America, The American Lutheran Church, and the Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches. It was governed by a Board of Commissioners and an Executive Committee. The Executive Committee made ad interim decisions as authorized in advance by the Commission or as subsequently ratified by the Commission by mail vote. It also was empowered to designate the officers and agents of LWM who had the authority to approve and execute, on behalf of LWM, specific instruments of general.

Types or natures, as were designated by the Executive Committee. In 1987, LWM was terminated with the establishment of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
