Henry Adams (1838-1918) was an American historian, novelist, and critic.

Adams was an American novelist, historian, and social critic. Rae was a friend of Adams' wife, Marian (Clover) Adams.
Henry Adams, grandson of John Quincy Adams, was educated at Harvard and served as secretary to his father, Charles Francis Adams, when he was Minister to England. He rejected a political career to teach history at Harvard and edit The North American review, 1870-1877, then returned to Washington. He wrote prolifically on many subjects and is best known for his Mont-Saint-Michel and Chartres (1904) and The education of Henry Adams (1907).
