Biographical History

Rainbow Kitchen Community Services was founded in 1984 by Bob Anderson, Theresa Chalich and Dolores Patrick, in response to the devastating community impact of the closing of area steel mills, which displaced thousands of workers living near Pittsburgh, Pa. Originally known as the Homestead Unemployed Center, the Rainbow Kitchen aims to help low income families become self sufficient through its food pantry, job training classes and other programs. Still located in Homestead, Pa., this non-profit organization is supported mostly through private donations, grants and other fundraising efforts.
