Biographical History
Hugh O'Brian was born April 19, 1925 as Hugh J. Krampe. After briefly attending the University of Cincinnati, he enlisted in the Marine Corps at age 17. He received an honorable discharge from the service and moved to Los Angeles where he began acting in a small theater group. Ida Lupino signed him to play his first starring role in Young lovers. O'Brian appeared in numerous theater, television, and motion picture productions, but he is best identified for his role as Wyatt Earp in the television western, The life and legend of Wyatt Earp (1955-61). In the late 1950s, O'Brian formed the Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation (later known as Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY). He has received many awards and honors for both his civic and philanthropic work over the years along with honorary degrees from several institutions of higher learning.
