Biographical History

Herman Uriah Butt was born on 25 January 1891 in Verdure, San Juan, Utah, to Parley Rogerson Butt and Ency Camilla Bayles. He was married to Edith Pearl Bliss on 26 December 1912 in Verdure, San Juan, Utah. Herman died 5 December 1984 in Monticello, San Juan, Utah.

Edith Pearl Bliss was born 15 July 1894 in Verdure, San Juan, Utah, to Orley Dwight Bliss and Harriet Josephine Lee. She served as the county clerk in Monticello, Utah, from 1947 to 1959.

Ray T. Matheny (1925-)formerly served in the Air Force and set up an athropology field in Montezuma Canyon for Brigham Young University.

Ray T. Matheny was born in Los Angeles, California on 15 February 1925. He spent eleven years in the Air Force, including three during WWII. He was a prisoner of war of Germany for 16 months. His aviation career lasted twenty years, before he returned to college to for ten years to pursue anthropology. Ray received his doctorate in anthropology from the University of Oregon. His thesis centered on the Montezuma Canyon in Utah, and he later returned to set up an anthropology field there for BYU. He and his wife had six children.

Marvin Finlinson Lyman was born 18 September 1894 Salt Lake City, Utah to Walter Clisbee and Elizabeth Finlinson Lyman. He married Margie Jeanette Hurst 7 June 1922 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Marvin died 11 October 1972 in Blanding, San Juan, Utah.

Margie Jeanette Hurst Lyman was born 12 December 1898 in Dublan, Galeana, Chihuahua, Mexico to George Arthur and Mary Maria Terry Hurst. She died 29 July 1994 in Blanding, San Juan, Utah.

Douglas Powell Galbraithe was born 17 December 1893 in Colonia Diaz, Chihuahua, Mexico to William Wilkie and Lillian Eva Powell Galbraith. He married Florence Redd 6 June 1928 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah. He died 31 March 1988 Blanding, San Juan, Utah.

Florence Redd Galbraith was born 26 February 1909 in Grayson, San Juan, Utah to Benjamin Franklin and Louisa Meears Sunderland Hawkins Redd. She and her husband Douglas had seven children, four of which grew to adulthood. Florence spent her whole life in Blanding, Utah. She died 15 April 1991 in Bennion, Salt Lake, Utah and was buried in Blanding.
