Missionary to Mohawk Indians. Full name: Christian Daniel Claus.
Daniel Claus was born in Germany and later moved to the United States. He was appointed deputy superintendent of Canadian Indian affairs. He worked with Joseph Brant, Sir William Johnson, and the Mohawk Indians.

Born in Germany, Daniel Claus emigrated to Philadelphia in 1749, met Conrad Weiser and tutored his son, and lived among the Mohawks. In 1755 Claus was made a lieutenant in the Indian dept. under Sir William Johnson and in 1760 was appointed deputy agent to the Canadian Indians. Based in Montreal, Claus reported both to Johnson and military officials, and served until 1775.
