Biographical History

Jean Galbraith (1906-1999) grew up on Dunedin, Tyers, a dairy farm in the Latrobe Valley, Gippsland, Victoria. Her parents fostered in her a love of plants and gardening and she began writing as a child. A selection of her articles was published as Garden in a valley in 1939. She became a highly respected botanist and contributed papers to The Victorian naturalist for over 50 years. Jean Galbraith wrote two botanical guides: Wildflowers of Victoria (Melbourne, 1950) and Collins field guide to the wildflowers of S.E. Australia (Sydney, 1977) ; several children's books, poetry and words for hymns.
