Biographical History

Watson Colt Allis was born in Topsfield, Massachusetts in 1857. As a young man, Allis became interested in the whaling and sealing industries and joined a whaling expedition to the Arctic Circle. His ship was caught in the ice and he nearly lost his life. Later he was active as a sealer and was associated with the North American Commercial Company and the Alaska Commercial Company. Allis retired to St. Helena, California in 1922 and died on April 7, 1942.
