Biographical History
Lieutenant Commander R.A.N., maritime historian and marine artist. Ingleton served in the Royal Australian Navy between 1922 and 1936. During that time he was assigned to the hydrographic service and served on H.M.A.S. Moresby, surveying waters to the north of Australia. In civilian life Ingleton worked as a draftsman and artist. From December 1940 until his retirement in 1973, Ingleton was employed in the Hydrographic Office. He was the author, compiler and illustrator of a number of books. Ingleton was also a collector of manuscripts, books, maps and paintings on early Australia. These collections had a particular emphasis on the sea, maritime exploration and coastal development.
J.T. Kirtley was the printer of Heemskerck Shoals by R.D. Fitzgerald; decorated by a map and fifteen designs after drawings done by Geoffrey C. Ingleton, Ferntree Gully Lower, Vic., Mountainside Press, 1949.
