Biographical History

Robert Leon Jones was born on September 6, 1921 in Halstead, Kansas. He earned his B.A. in journalism in 1942 from the University of Wichita, his M.A. in psychology in 1947 and his Ph.D. in psychology and journalism in 1951 from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Jones joined the faculty of the University of Minnesota as an instructor in psychology in 1947. In 1950, he became the assistant to the director of the research division in the School of Journalism. He was promoted assistant professor and director of the research division in 1952. In 1957, he was made a full professor and in 1958, Dr. Jones became the director of the School of Journalism. Dr. Jones' focus in his research and teaching was on the field of advertising. In 1978, he resigned his position as director and retired from the University of Minnesota as professor emeritus in 1986. Robert Jones died February 8, 2005.
