Biographical History
Dyer was Chief of Ordnance of the United States Army invading New Mexico during the Mexican War. He also participated in battles in Taos, New Mexico during the Taos Revolt of 1847.
Alexander Brydie Dyer (b. Jan. 10, 1815, Richmond, Virginia-d. May 20, 1874, Washington, D.C.), Major General in the U.S. Army, graduated from West Point in 1837 and began his career in the Florida Indian Wars and as chief of ordnance in the Mexican War. At the outbreak of the Civil War, although a native Virginian, he chose loyalty to the Union and was put in charge of the Springfield Armory, increasing production to a thousand rifles a day. He later became Chief of Ordnance.
