Women's musical society organized 1869 in Portland, Me., incorporated 1871 as affiliate of Maine Federation of Music Clubs and National Federation of Music Clubs; named for Italian opera composer: Gioacchino Antonio Rossini. Current porpose of the club is three-fold: to provide live musical performances, encourage young musicians, and promote and present creative and educational musical activities; name also found: Portland Rossini Club.
Founded 1869; incorporated 1871; comprised chiefly of women musicians and vocalists; active in charitable events and gave scholarship funds to music students; still active; named in honor of Italian composer Gioacchino Rossini.
