Biographical History

Materials in this collection refer to the heirs of Joshua Jennings (d. 1675) who settled in Fairfield around 1650. The descendants included store keepers, sea captains, farmers, and landowners. Annie Burr Jennings, her brother Oliver Gould Jennings, and their sister Emma Auchincloss became town benefactors in the early 1900s; most notably in the philanthropic backing of the Town Hall restoration, Ogden House, and the Historical Society Building.
