Calvin Thornton Durgin was born January 7, 1893, in Palmyra, New Jersey. He served as Deputy Chief of Naval Operations from May 1949 to March 1950, and retired as a vice admiral in September 1951. Durgin died on March 25, 1965.

Calvin Theodore Durgin was born in Palmyra, New Jersey on January 7, 1893. He attended public schools in Palmyra before being appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy from the Second Congressional District of New Jersey in 1912. Graduated and commissioned an Ensign on June 3, 1916, he was advanced progressively in grade to that of Rear Admiral, dating from February 1943. He served in the rank of Vice Admiral from May 1, 1949 to January 1951, and upon his transfer to the Retired List on September 1, 1951, he was promoted to that rank.
