The engineering major at Smith College was established with the entering class of 2000 and is also known as the Picker Program in Engineering and Technology. Prior to 2000 Smith had a minor in engineering and from 1976- had a dual degree program in cooperation with the University of Massachusetts Amherst and/or Dartmouth College.

Since 1985, Smith College has offered an engineering minor with concentrations in chemical, civil, and computer engineering. Between 1976 and 1991, Smith was partners with the University of Massachusetts in a dual engineering program. The Engineering Department was developed in 2000 and focuses on computer, electrical and environmental engineering.
