Biographical History

In 1865, the Willamette Iron Works began operating in Portland, Oregon and was known for producing the "Willamette Donkey" for logging operations.

In 1865, the Willamette Iron Works began operating in Portland, Oregon and was known for producing the "Willamette Donkey" for logging operations.

In 1904 after moving from its downtown location to the waterfront, the company changed its name to Willamette Iron and Steel Works. In 1938, the company was organized as WIllamette Iron and Steel Corporation. During WWII, it became a shipbuilding contractor for the Unites States government. In 1946, the company was sold and became known as the WIllamette Iron and Steel Company. Later the company was also known as Wisco.
