Biographical History
Friends began meeting in what became the City of Baltimore in 1781 after moving from Patapsco, and in 1792 Baltimore Monthly Meeting was formed. The meeting grew quickly, and in 1805 a second meeting house was built on Lombard Street. In 1807, the large number of Friends in Baltimore led to the creation of a second monthly meeting. Baltimore Monthly Meeting changed its name to the Baltimore Monthly Meeting for the Eastern District, and the new meeting at Lombard Street became the Baltimore Monthly Meeting for the Western District. Tensions over the Aisquith St. graveyard arose, and resulted in the laying down of Baltimore Monthly Meeting for the Eastern District by the Yearly Meeting; it became a Preparative meeting under Baltimore Monthly Meeting for the Western District.
