Biographical History

This agreement binds Greenberry Dorsey and George Burkhart to the heir of the Henry R. Whitaker estate for the sum of $500.00. The heir was Washington Whitaker (infant at time of agreement), whose guardian was Benjamin Helm. This agreement states that Dorsey and Burkhart hired a slave named Abraham for the amount of sixty dollars. This agreement was in effect for the period of one year. Abraham was to be treated "with humanity" and returned with "one kersey jackett [sic] and sleaves [sic], one pair of overalls of the same, one shirt of new stron linoun [sic], one pair of knit stockings, one pair of strong new shoes - one new wool hat & shirts & two pair of overalls of linnin [sic]..."
