Susan Bradford Eppes (1845 or 1846-1942) was an author of Tallahassee, Fla.

Descendant of William Bradford, second governer of Massachusetts. Granddaughter of John Branch, territorial governor of Florida. Married to Nicholas Ware Eppes. Charter member of the Southern Women's Association and the Anna Jackson chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Member of Daughters of the American Revolution.

Susan Bradford Eppes was the daughter of Dr. Edward Bradford and a descendant of William Bradford, the governor of Massachusetts who issued the first Thanksgiving proclamation. Her mother was Martha Branch Bradford, daughter of John Branch, who was governor of North Carolina and held numerous other posts in government, including territorial governor of Florida. She was well educated and lived at Pine Hill Plantation, 10 miles north of Tallahassee.

In 1866, she married Nicholas Ware Eppes, who was a direct descendant of Thomas Jefferson. Both Nicholas Ware Eppes and his son served as county superintendent of public instruction. Susan was interested in preserving the history of the Confederacy. She was a charter member of the Southern Women's Association, which merged with the United Daughters of the Confederacy. At her suggestion, Fred H. Davis introduced a bill, which became a law, providing a chair of American and Southern History.

At the University of Florida and Florida State College for Women. Although she did research and wrote throughout her life, she did not begin publi shing until 1925 with The Negro of the Old South. She also wrote poetry and contributed to magazines of the time. She died at the age of 92.
