Biographical History

Born in Bay City April 10, 1870, son of Robert L. and Harriet Beecher Warren; attended Albion, graduated from U. of M. 1891; graduated from Detroit College of Law 1893. Joined law firm of Don M. Dickinson, then headed his own firm of Warren, Cady, Hill & Hamblen. Associate Counsel for U. S. in Hering Sea Claims, 1896; counsel for U. S. in North Atlantic coast fisheries arbitration before Hague tribunal, 1910. In World War I, Lt. Col. on staff of Gen. Crowder; assisted in drawing up Selective Service law and administering the draft ministering the draft. Received D.S.M. for that service. Member Republican National Committee, 1912-1920; took leading part in nomination of William Taft in 1912, and Harding. Appointed ambassador to Japan 1921-1923; head of High Commission to Mexico (Warren-Payne Commission), Ambassador to Mexico, 1924; nominated by Coolidge for Attorney General in 1925 but not confirmed by Senate. President Detroit Board of Commerce, 1914-16; director Paige-Detroit Motor Co.; president Michigan Beet Sugar Co.; director National Bank of Commerce. Married in 1902 Helen Hunt Wetmore and had children, Wetmore (d. 1919 aged 15), Charles B. Jr., Robert, John Buel. (from BHC Biog. file (C.B. Warren) ) (blue index cards)
