Warren, Charles Beecher, 1870-1936

Born in Bay City April 10, 1870, son of Robert L. and Harriet Beecher Warren; attended Albion, graduated from U. of M. 1891; graduated from Detroit College of Law 1893. Joined law firm of Don M. Dickinson, then headed his own firm of Warren, Cady, Hill & Hamblen. Associate Counsel for U. S. in Hering Sea Claims, 1896; counsel for U. S. in North Atlantic coast fisheries arbitration before Hague tribunal, 1910. In World War I, Lt. Col. on staff of Gen. Crowder; assisted in drawing up Selective Service law and administering the draft ministering the draft. Received D.S.M. for that service. Member Republican National Committee, 1912-1920; took leading part in nomination of William Taft in 1912, and Harding. Appointed ambassador to Japan 1921-1923; head of High Commission to Mexico (Warren-Payne Commission), Ambassador to Mexico, 1924; nominated by Coolidge for Attorney General in 1925 but not confirmed by Senate. President Detroit Board of Commerce, 1914-16; director Paige-Detroit Motor Co.; president Michigan Beet Sugar Co.; director National Bank of Commerce.
