Biographical History
C. Calhoun Lemon, born in Barnwell, South Carolina in 1910 to Mr. and Mrs. William James Lemon, attended public schools, Clemson College (1928-1930), and the University of South Carolina where he received his bachelor's degree in 1932. An avid Clemson supporter through IPTAY (athletics), Alumni Association, Board of Visitors, and Clemson University Foundation under which he made possible the first named professorship in the college of Liberal Arts. In his business career he was president of five trucking companies, the largest, most diversified trucking operation in South Carolina and was president of Gulf Coast Paving Company, Inc. He was a Byrnes appointee to the State Board of Tax Appeals, and he also served as director of various county, church, college, and business boards. He married Kathryn Craven and they have one son and two daughters.
