Anglican Society of The University of Nottingham

The Anglican Society of The University of Nottingham was formed in 1947 to provide fellowship in worship, study and Christian witness for members of the Church of England in the university. Holy Communion was conducted on campus in the Portland Building's lecture hall every Sunday morning and local churches were visited in turn for Evensong. Meetings and talks at the university following Evensong were also a regular occurrence. Preparation for confirmation was arranged in the winter. Holy Communion, matins and evensong were also celebrated throughout the week in the university chapel.

The Bishop of Southwell was the honorary president of the society which was led by the university chaplain. The society, along with others such as the Methodist Society, was represented by the Christian Association which promoted study, mission and corporate prayer within the university. The Anglican Society is no longer in existence.
