Biographical History
Peter Wykes Burgis is a researcher into the history of the Australian recorded sound industry. He was involved, as a consultant, in the development of the National Collection of Sound Recordings, created in 1973 by the National Library of Australia, Canberra. He was then appointed Sound Archivist at the NLA in 1973, working there at least until 2001. Later, he was Head of Sound and Radio at the National Film and Sound Archive (formerly ScreenSound Australia), Canberra. He has been involved in the preservation of documents relating to pioneer Australian performing artists, musicians and composers. He also writes, lectures and broadcasts on these subjects.
