Biographical History
The Council for Agricultural Science and Technology (CAST) was established in 1972 and is a nonprofit organization composed of scientific societies and many individual, student, company, nonprofit, and associate society members. Its mission is to identify food and fiber, environmental, and other agricultural issues, and to interpret related scientific research information for legislators, regulators, and the media for use in public policy decision making. CAST presents the Charles A. Black Award (Professor Emeritus of Agronomy at Iowa State and founding member of CAST) annually to a food or agricultural scientist who has made significant contributions to their scientists field and has demonstrated its importance to the public. The headquarters is located in Ames, Iowa.
