Andrews, Milton P.

Founded in 1959 by the Reverend Harold J. Bass, the small congegration at Hillside Community Church was engaged with issues of social justice from its very inception. Bass built his own small church because his opposition to the Korean War had led to his ouster from St. Paul's Methodist Church in Tacoma, Washington. The Hillside congregation's protests against the Vietnam War led to a firebombing attempt on the property in 1965. An equally controversial minister, Milton P. Andrews, eventually became the leader of Hillside Community Church after the death Bass in 1982. The building is currently used as a site for Quaker meetings.
