William Grant was born on Christmas Day in Willenhall, England. to John and Sarah Grant. Along with his family, in which he was the first son and second child, Grant joined the Latter-day Saint faith at the age of twelve. Though his parents lost interest for the Church by the time Grant reached thirteen, he stayed firm in his beliefs, traveling to Utah after his marriage to Harriet Foster in 1859. Foster was not a member of the Latter-day Saint faith when she married Grant, but she eventually converted. Grant later entered into plural marriage, marrying Rose Hannah in May 1875. Throughout his life, Grant showed an incredible passion for music, often working as a music dealer or performer, and also kept avid journals. He also helped establish the Utah town American Fork. Grant passed away on the second or fifth day of December 1916.
