Biographical History

Ormond Beatty was born in 1815, and spent nearly sixty years of his life associated with Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. After graduating in 1835, he continued his studies at Yale, returning to Centre in 1837 to become professor of natural and physical science. In 1847 he became professor of mathematics, but in 1852 returned to his original position. In 1870 he was elected president of Centre, and professor of metaphysics. Beatty served as president until 1888. He died in 1890.

Pattie Bell Beatty Quisenberry, daughter of Ormond Beatty and his second wife, was born in 1853. She was married to John A. Quisenberry, a prominent Danville banker and trustee of Caldwell College. She died in 1934.

Ormond Beatty's father, Adam Beatty, was born in 1777. He served as circuit judge, and was elected to both houses of the Kentucky General Assembly from Mason County. He died in 1858.
