Biographical History

Poet and author. Born at Ellerslie Station (NSW), educated at The King's School (Sydney) and Jesus College (Cambridge). Represented The King's School, Cambridge and England as a rugby player. Served with the Royal Australian Air Force (1939-1945). Published over 15 volumes of poetry and prose. Poetry editor of The Australian (1964-65), editor of Australian poetry (1966) and Modern Australian poetry (1970), and recipient of a senior fellowship of the Literature Board of the Australia Council for the Arts (1973-76).
