Don Carlos Buell was a Mexican War hero, and Civil War general who was the commander of the Union forces at the Battle of Perryville, KY.
Union soldier, graduated West Point, 1841; served in Mexican War with distinction. Appointed brigadier general in 1861 and helped organize the Army of the Potomac; commanded the Army of the Ohio; resigned his commission 1864 after an investigation of his command at the Battle of Perryville (Ky.).
United States Army General, Adjutant General of the Department of Texas (1853-1856) and Commander of the Department of the Ohio (1861-1862).
