Biographical History

Educator, author. Educated at San Francisco Normal School (1916). Taught in San Joaquin County, Calif. schools where she worked with Japanese American children at time of internment (1942). Mrs. Sprague studied history under Rockwell Hunt at College of Pacific (1952-1955), receiving a B.A. in latter year. She later taught gifted children in Stockton, Calif. schools when programs for them were first created (1957-1961). Claire Sprague published a book of verse and an autobiography, "Rocking Chair Memories" (1967). She had two sons, both of whom served in World War II. One son, Irvine H., was an aide to President Lyndon B. Johnson.
