Biographical History

Friends' South-Western Burial Ground was opened by Philadelphia Monthly Meeting for the Western District (Society of Friends) in 1860. It was located just outside of the boundary of Philadelphia in Upper Darby. The other Orthodox monthly meetings in Philadelphia purchased adjacent land for burials in 1880. Some remains from the older Quaker Eastern (Arch Street) and Western burial grounds have also been reinterred here, but most of these records have not survived. Today this burial ground is under the care of Central Philadelphia Monthly Meeting.

From the description of Records, 1827-2004, 1859-2004. (Swarthmore College). WorldCat record id: 65659275
