Biographical History

Raymond Tyson Moyer (1899-1993), agricultural reformer, internationalist, and progressive citizen, devoted most of his life helping others to live better. Over his forty year career, Moyer directly and indirectly assisted millions in Asia through aid the U.S. provided for agricultural, economical, and technological purposes. After his 1921 graduation from Oberlin College, Moyer served as a Oberlin Shansi representative. Moyer returned to Shansi Province in 1927 to serve as head of the agricultural department at Ming Hsien school, a post he held until 1942. Moyer returned to the U.S in 1942 to work for the federal government. Spanning over thirty years, Moyer was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (1943-1947), the Joint Commission of Rural Reconstruction (1948-1951), U.S. Economic Aid Mission in Taiwan (1950-1951), Far East Division of the Foreign Operations Administration (1953-1958), U.S. Economic Aid Mission in Korea (1959-1961), and U.S. Economic Aid Agency in Afghanistan (1964-1967). Moyer retired in 1968, and began serious work on his autobiography, which was published posthumously in 1995. Moyer died in 1993.
